I distinctly remember our first day of ultimate tournament play at High Tide. It was Tuesday, and we had arrived the previous Saturday. Needless to say, we were ready and raring to go. Because of the way the schedule was built, we didn’t have games until 3:00pm. We slept in and walked a single block from our beach house out to the beach for the morning. Southern beaches go for miles, and in March, you have the whole thing to yourself. Early in the afternoon, we packed ourselves up and after a short drive to the fields, we were so ready that we were shaking with excitement. We did our warm-ups with a big lap around the sports complex (mostly to see all the goofy costumes and uniforms that all the teams were wearing). We had three games each day and knew that by the end of the week, our tie-dyes would be covered in dirt and grass stains. We finished our games that night under the lights in a warm misty rain. The rest of the week was awesome, and we placed second in the women’s division. It was by far the most fun tournament I’ve ever played in.
